Paul Kusserow
Paul Kusserow
President and Chief Executive Officer
Paul Kusserow Paul Kusserow is the President and Chief Executive Officer for Amedisys and member of its Board of Directors. Kusserow, a healthcare industry veteran with deep expertise in driving growth strategies, most recently served as President and Vice Chairman of Alignment Healthcare, Inc., an integrated clinical care company focused on providing care to the Medicaid population. Prior to that, he served as Senior Vice President, Chief Strategy, Innovations and Corporate Development Officer of Humana, Inc., a Fortune 75 healthcare services and benefits company.

Kusserow’s experience also includes time as Managing Director and Chief Investment Officer of the Ziegler HealthVest Fund; Managing Director of San Ysidro Capital Partners, L.L.C.; and Managing Partner of Roaring Mountain, L.L.C. He began his healthcare career with Tenet Healthcare Corporation, one of the nation’s largest investor-owned healthcare service companies, where he spent seven years, the last four as Senior Vice President, Strategy and Ventures. Kusserow is on the boards of Connecture (Nasdaq: CNXR), Picwell, and New Century Health. Prior to Tenet, Kusserow was a consultant at McKinsey and Company, Inc. Kusserow received his Bachelor of Arts from Wesleyan University, where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, and his Master of Arts from Oxford University, where he was a Rhodes Scholar.

Chief Operating Officer
Chris Gerard Chris Gerard is Chief Operating Officer, overseeing the company’s home health, hospice and personal care divisions.

Gerard has a track record of more than 20 years experience in home health and hospice. He was co-founder, President and Chief Executive Officer of IntegraCare Home Health, where he built a single home health start-up location into 54 branches, generating $71 million in annual revenues. He sold the company to Kindred Healthcare in 2012. He then served as Vice President of South Central Region for the Kindred at Home division, currently a $2.5 billion home health, hospice and community care services business with approximately 700 locations and 42,000 employees nationwide. Gerard was promoted to Chief Operating Officer at Kindred at Home, where he was responsible for integrating a $140 million home health company; standardizing processes across a division involving 187 locations, staff of 3,300 and revenue of $360 million. Most recently, he served as President for the South Central Region of Kindred at Home with responsibility for day-to-day operations, including the integration of the Gentiva Home Health acquisition within his region, oversight of clinical excellence, financial performance and operational efficiencies for 153 home health and hospice locations in six states with annual revenue in excess of $400 million.

Gerard received his Bachelor degree in Finance from Texas Tech University.

Chief Accounting Officer
Scott G. Ginn Scott G. Ginn is our Chief Accounting Officer (since February 2017). He previously served as Senior Vice President of Finance and Accounting from October 2015 to February 2017 and Senior Vice President of Accounting and Controller from April 2007 to October 2015. Prior to joining the Company, he was a Director at Postlethwaite & Netterville, a professional accounting corporation. Mr. Ginn is a Certified Public Accountant.
David Kemmerly
David Kemmerly
General Counsel and Senior Vice President of Government Affairs
David Kemmerly David Kemmerly, General Counsel and Senior Vice President of Government Affairs for Amedisys, has over 25 years of experience in governmental affairs, with more than 17 years specializing in health care law and public policy. Most recently, he served as Special Counsel at Adams and Reese LLP, a multidisciplinary law firm where he represented diverse health care interests before the state legislature and state agencies.

Prior to Adams and Reese, Mr. Kemmerly served as Director of State Public Affairs of Humana, Inc. for six years where he was responsible for legislative and regulatory affairs and outcomes in all 50 states. In this role, he developed and led implementation of successful state legislative and regulatory strategies that helped protect the business interests of one of the nation's largest health insurers with over 13 million medical enrollees.

Mr. Kemmerly has extensive experience in state and national government relations, including serving as the Louisiana State Medical Society’s Associate Director in the Department of Governmental Affairs where he lobbied state legislators, state regulatory agencies, and the U.S. Congress on issues impacting physicians and the practice of medicine. He also served as an attorney for the Louisiana State Senate, political consultant for DLK Consulting Group, and in the offices of various elected officials.

Mr. Kemmerly received his Bachelor of Arts from Louisiana State University, and his Juris Doctor from Tulane University Law School. He is also a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association.

Michael North
Michael North
Chief Information Officer
Michael North Michael North serves as Chief Information Officer for Amedisys, managing the company’s technology and analytics systems to support enterprise - wide operations and growth. He joined Amedisys in 2015 as senior vice president of operations and led the integration of the company’s successful conversion to the HomeCare HomeBase operating system.

North brings more than 30 years experience in integration, project management and process and system development. He most recently held leadership roles at Humana, where he oversaw the successful integration of numerous acquisitions and of shared service organizations within the company as a director in Corporate Development. Prior to that, he was integration leader for strategic acquisitions at Humana.North helped lead the creation of the Humana Vitality program, managed multiple acquisitions and worked on other company - wide initiatives.

His previous experience includes management roles at Kindred Healthcare, where he led clinical systems development for the company’s pharmacy line of business and the company’s other organizations. North holds an MBA from the University of Louisville in Kentucky and a Bachelor of Science from Eastern Illinois University.
David Pearce
David Pearce
Senior Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer
David Pearce David Pearce manages and oversees the company’s ethics and compliance program, including the development and oversight of policies, procedures and practices designed to promote ethical behavior and compliance with federal and state healthcare program laws and regulations. He also assesses compliance vulnerability and risk within the organization.

Pearce has served a number of healthcare organizations, including Kindred and Extendicare. Most recently, he served as the Senior Vice President and Chief Counsel for Kindred’s at Home division, a $2.5 billion home health, hospice and community care services business with approximately 600 service locations and 42,000 employees across the country. Prior to rejoining Kindred, Pearce served as General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer for Extendicare Health Services, Inc., as well as serving in a variety of other general counsel, compliance, and legal roles for organizations like Vencor (predecessor to Kindred) and in private practice with law firms in Lexington, Kentucky and Atlanta, Georgia. He began his legal career as a Staff Judge Advocate for the United States Navy.

Pearce received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Kentucky and earned his Juris Doctor from Northern Kentucky University.

Chief Human Resources Officer
Larry R. Pernosky Larry R. Pernosky, Chief Human Resources Officer for Amedisys, has over 30 years of experience leading human capital strategies to drive superior business outcomes. His expertise spans the health care, consumer goods manufacturing, petrochemical engineering, energy services, and media and entertainment industries.

Most recently, Mr. Pernosky served as Vice President of Human Capital Consulting for Humana, Inc., where he held various positions since 2004 and was instrumental in driving key human resources operational efficiencies for the leading health and well-being company. Working in close partnership with the Chief Operating Officer’s executive team, he was accountable for the coordination and cross-organizational collaboration of the HR Business Leadership team, Organizational Design and Change Practice, Company Policy and Practice, HR Due Diligence in Mergers and Acquisitions and Associate Relations. During his 11 years at Humana, he also led Organizational Design, HR M&A, Policy, Change Management and Associate Communications.

Mr. Pernosky’s experience runs the gamut from Fortune 200 companies with global responsibilities to small, entrepreneurial start-up companies, including significant international experience. He has also held positions at Big Idea Productions, Inc., Halliburton Corporation, and Whirlpool Corporation.

Mr. Pernosky received his Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing from Kent State University and executive education certificate in HR Strategy and Capability from the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia.

Chief Strategy Officer
Stephen Seim Stephen Seim is the Chief Strategy Officer for Amedisys. Before joining the Amedisys team, Mr. Seim spent 18 years at Humana where he was responsible for building and leading their Corporate Strategy Team. This team developed the organization’s overall strategy as well as the strategies identifying and building the growth platforms used to diversify Humana’s business and build out their integrated care delivery model. This work drove over $2 billion in acquisitions. Steve also led Medicare Advantage segmentation work, an initiative to drive alignment around serving members with diabetes, Humana’s long term financial forecasting and capital deployment planning, and Medicare Prescription Drug operations.

Prior to his work at Humana, Steve was an Executive at Deloitte & Touche Consulting Group and a Senior Consultant at Ernst & Young. Steve attended the University of Notre Dame where he received a BBA in Accountancy. He also holds an MBA in Finance/Operations from Duke University. He is licensed as a CPA in the State of Texas.

Senior Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer
Susan Sender Susan Sender, RN, BSN, CHCE, serves as Amedisys’ Senior Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer, overseeing clinical practice, quality, clinical operations standards setting, clinical program development and implementation, clinical education and all facets of patient care, quality outcomes and clinician support across the organization.

Ms. Sender has extensive expertise in healthcare at home, with more than thirty years of experience in the industry. She joined Amedisys from Kindred at Home, where she served as Senior Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer for three years. At Kindred, Ms. Sender was responsible for the oversight of all clinical program development; policy development; quality and performance improvement; regulatory compliance; clinical analytics; and clinical education for more than 35,000 nurses, therapists, social workers and aides across 40 states.

Prior to Kindred, Ms. Sender spent five years working as the Chief Clinical Officer and Vice President of Pediatric Operations for Loving Care Agency. Her other clinical management experience includes 23 years with Gentiva, the last 7 as the as Vice President and Chief Nursing Executive. She has special expertise in quality improvement, clinical practice, policy development, reducing unnecessary hospitalizationsand all clinical aspects of Mergers and Acquisitions . Ms. Sender has served on national advisory boards and CMS panels.

She holds a BSN from Adelphi University in Garden City, New York.
Gary D. Willis

Chief Financial Officer
Gary D. Willis Gary Willis oversees all aspects of the company’s financial operations, capital and financing strategy, public reporting and investor relations.

Willis is a senior financial executive with more than 25 years of experience, including 14 years in the healthcare industry. He most recently served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Capella Healthcare, Inc., where he oversaw financial operations of its acute care hospital facilities and guided the transition of the company from private equity ownership to an innovative capital structure with a public real estate investment trust. Prior to Capella Healthcare, Willis served as Chief Financial Officer for investment firm Martin Ventures. He has also served as Senior Vice President and Chief Accounting Officer for Vanguard Health Systems, Inc., a Fortune 500 public healthcare company with revenues of $6 billion operating hospitals, health plans and related businesses; and Senior Vice President and Chief Accounting Officer for LifePoint, Health, Inc., a publicly-held healthcare services company.

A Certified Public Accountant, Willis earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Western Kentucky University.

Linda J. Hall
Director
Ms. Hall is the Entrepreneur-in-Residence at the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota and works as a private consultant with several organizations, including a number of companies in the health care industry. Ms. Hall has significant management experience in the health care industry, having served as the CEO of MinuteClinic, CEO of Accurate Home Care, and as an interim executive at UnitedHealth Group, leading their corporate social responsibility initiative for AARP. Her other management experience includes serving as President of Ceridian Performance Partners and Vice President of Honeywell’s Worldwide Consumer Business Group. She also serves on the board of directors of Investors Real Estate Trust. Previously, she served on the boards of Health Fitness Corporation, August Technology, and MTS Systems Corporation. Ms. Hall is Chair of the Compliance and Ethics Committee of our Board of Directors.
Julie D. Klapstein

Julie Klapstein was the founding CEO of Availity, the industry leader in optimizing the automated delivery of critical business and clinical information among healthcare stakeholders. Klapstein was the CEO and board member of Availity for 11 years. Since its inception in 2001, Availity has become one of the largest health care information exchanges in the country and has won more than a dozen industry awards for its health information network.

Availity dramatically expanded its footprint under Klapstein’s leadership. In addition to substantial organic growth, the company acquired The Health Information Network (THIN) in 2006 and RealMed in 2010. The combined enterprise now delivers advanced health information solutions to a nationally growing network that currently includes more than 200,000 physicians and providers of care, 1,000 hospitals, 1,300 health plans and 500 industry partners.

Klapstein’s 30+ years of experience in the health care information technology industry include executive roles at Phycom, Inc. as CEO, Sunquest Information Systems (EVP); SMS’ TurnkeySystems Division (now Siemens Medical Systems) and GTE Health Systems.

She recently served on the board of directors for Annie’s Homegrown, Inc. (BNNY - organic and natural foods), and serves on the boards of Colorhouse (lifestyle brand), Dominion Diagnostics (laboratory services), eSolutions (revenue cycle management) the Grand Canyon Association. She serves on the advisory board of Riverside Partners and Operating Council at Solera Capital and is also an advisor to Francisco Partners. She has been active with United Way and served on the boards of Jacksonville Humane Society and NE Florida Lyme Association.

Klapstein earned her bachelor’s degree from Portland State University in Portland, Oregon. She is the recipient of multiple awards for top business leaders in Florida. She resides in Tucson, Arizona and Port Angeles, Washington.

Rich Lechleiter

After obtaining his undergraduate degree in Accounting from Xavier University in 1979, Rich started his career with Coopers & Lybrand (now PwC) as a Staff Auditor in his hometown of Louisville, Kentucky. In late 1981, Rich joined the corporate accounting group at Humana Inc., initially focusing on financial and SEC reporting as well as budget management.

During his tenure at Humana, Rich played a key role in the Company’s evolution from a national operator of hospitals to a managed care and health benefits enterprise. In addition to his financial reporting responsibilities, Rich was also responsible for the establishment of loss reserves in a fast-growing insurance operation.

In 1988, Rich was promoted to Corporate Controller of the parent company and was named Vice President and Chief Accounting Officer of the Company in 1990. In 1992, Rich played a key role in Humana’s spin-off of its hospital business and joined the new company, Galen Health Care, Inc., as its Chief Accounting Officer in 1993. Through a series of mergers, Galen became part of Columbia/HCA Healthcare Corp., a $15+ billion enterprise, and Rich retained his responsibilities within the larger organization.

In 1995, Rich joined Kindred Healthcare (formerly Vencor, Inc.) as its Vice President and Controller. Over the next four years, the Company’s annual revenues grew from approximately $400 million to nearly $3 billion through a series of mergers and acquisitions. Following the spin-off of its real estate in 1998, the Company was required to reorganize itself as a result of significant Medicare reimbursement reductions. Having lead the successful recapitalization of the Company as its Chief Accounting Officer and Treasurer in 2001, Rich was appointed Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer in 2002.

By 2012, Kindred’s annual revenues had grown to over $6 billion, making it the largest post-acute healthcare provider in the United States. In July 2013, Rich announced his retirement as Kindred’s Chief Financial Officer to be effective in January 2014.

In April 2014, Rich was appointed President of the Catholic Education Foundation of Louisville.
Jake L. Netterville, CPA
Director
Mr. Netterville was the Managing Partner of Postlethwaite & Netterville, a professional accounting corporation, from 1977 to 1998 and has since been Chairman of its Board of Directors. Mr. Netterville is a certified public accountant, has served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Inc. (“AICPA”) and is a permanent member of the AICPA’s Governing Council. Mr. Netterville was appointed Chairman of the Audit Committee of our Board of Directors in February 2003.
Bruce D. Perkins
Director
Mr. Perkins, 61, is the Strategic Executive for MCCI Group Holdings, L.L.C., a physician services company based in Miami, Florida (“MCCI Group”). Immediately prior to his January 1, 2015, employment with MCCI Group, Mr. Perkins retired from Humana, Inc. (“Humana”) after a thirty-eight year career, most recently as President of Humana’s Healthcare Services Segment. Once Humana spun off its hospital business, Mr. Perkins served as regional vice president and divisional president for Humana health plans across multiple markets. Mr. Perkins was a member of Humana’s Management Team. In addition to his MCCI Group responsibilities, Mr. Perkins serves as a strategic advisor and executive coach for ChenMed, a Florida based MSO (and is the parent company of JennCare). He also serves on the Advisory Board of the University of Louisville College of Business and previously served as: chairman of the board of MCCI Group Holdings; a board member of Humana Health Plan of Puerto Rico; treasurer of the American Association of PPOs (AAPPO).
Jeffrey Rideout
Director
Dr. Rideout was recently appointed as President and CEO of the Integrated Healthcare Association. The Integrated Healthcare Association is a California statewide multi-stakeholder leadership group that promotes quality improvement, accountability and affordability of health care. Dr. Rideout also serves as a Senior Advisor to GE Ventures, focusing on new business development related to Digital Health and Digital Therapeutics, including assessing and accelerating new early stage solutions and companies. Dr. Rideout holds academic appointments with Stanford University and University of California Berkeley Haas School of Business, teaching on topics related to healthcare technology, services and investment.

Previously Dr. Rideout served as the Senior Medical Advisor for Covered California, the state based insurance exchange for California. Together with Medi-Cal expansion, the state of California reduced the number of uninsured in California by 50% in its first year. In this role Dr. Rideout was responsible for quality and network management and all physician and hospital relations. Previously Dr. Rideout was SVP, Chief Medical Officer for The TriZetto Group, leading strategy around development and delivery of a comprehensive suite of products and services that enable payers, providers and employers improve the cost and quality of care for consumers. Dr. Rideout also served as the global leader of the healthcare division for Cisco Systems Internet Business Solutions Group, and Cisco’s Chief Medical Officer, working with health care and public sector leaders to help them use technology to accelerate transformation of the health care industry, and also provided strategic leadership for health benefit value purchasing decisions for Cisco’s 65,000 employees and dependents worldwide. While at Cisco, Dr. Rideout also served as a member of the American Health Information Community (AHIC’s) Chronic Care Workgroup for the US Department of Health and Human Services.

Prior to Cisco, Dr. Rideout was Chief Medical Officer and SVP for Blue Shield of California and head of Quality Management for Blue Cross of California/WellPoint. Dr. Rideout is currently board chair for Contra Costa Interfaith Housing, which provides permanent housing to low income families in Contra Costa County, California. He is also a 14 year board member and volunteer for Medical Teams International, an international medical relief organization based in Portland, Oregon.

Dr. Rideout completed his residency training in internal medicine at University of California, San Francisco and is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. He received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School and his undergraduate degree from Stanford University. He also holds a master’s degree in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics from Oxford University where he studied as a Rhodes Scholar.

Don Washburn
Non-Executive Chairman of the Board
Mr. Washburn, a private investor for over five years, currently serves as a director on the boards of the following publicly traded companies: (i) LaSalle Hotel Properties, a real estate investment trust; (ii) The Greenbrier Companies, Inc., a manufacturer and lessor of rail cars and barges; and (iii) Key Technology, Inc., which designs and manufactures process automation systems for the food processing and industrial markets. He also serves on several private company boards. He is also a retired Executive Vice President of Northwest Airlines, Inc. and was the Chairman and President-Northwest Cargo, Inc. Prior to joining Northwest Airlines, Inc., Mr. Washburn was a corporate Senior Vice President of Marriott Corporation, most recently Executive Vice President and general manager of its Courtyard Hotel division. Mr. Washburn is Chairman of the Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee of our Board of Directors.
Nathaniel M. Zilkha
Director
Mr. Zilkha is a member of the general partner of KKR & Co. L.P. (together with its affiliates, "KKR") and serves as Head of KKR’s credit platform and as the Global Co-Head of Special Situations. Mr. Zilkha joined KKR in 2007. As Head of Credit, he works closely with the credit portfolio teams to help drive investment performance, strategy, business development and coordination across the platform. He is a member of the Leveraged Credit, Private Credit and Special Situations Investment Committees as well as the KKR Asset Management Portfolio Management Committee. He also spent time as a member of the Healthcare Private Equity Team in KKR’s Menlo Park office. Prior to joining KKR, Mr. Zilkha was a member of the Principal Investment Area of Goldman, Sachs & Co., where he invested in private equity and principal debt transactions. He is currently on the Boards of Directors of Amedisys, Inc., the Winoa Group and QMH Limited. He was formerly on the Boards of Directors of Harden Healthcare, Oriental Brewery and Jazz Pharmaceuticals. Mr. Zilkha graduated cum laude from Princeton University. MR. Zilkha is Chairman of the Compensation Committee of our Board of Directors.
